High Point

(North Carolina) The High Point Fall Market kicked off on Saturday October 17th to a less than full crowd. As most industry experts predicted, High Point's Fall Market saw lower attendance especially from the Western states. This was due mainly to the Las Vegas World Market Center pushing back the date of its show from mid-July to mid-September. With the shows only being a mere two weeks apart, most West Coast dealers decided to save themselves money and only go to one show.

Directors of the High Point Market Authority noticed the less than thrilling number of attendees but nonetheless were still optimistic about the future. "In a lot of ways, the independent retailer has become king again," said Market Authority Chairman Kevin O'Connor. He also added that although market attendance was flat, one bright spot appeared to be a significant increase in Canadian retailers - many of whom had shopped the Las Vegas Market instead of High Point in recent years.

The High Point market returns in 2010:
APRIL 17-22
OCTOBER 16-2.
