Blood Drive
(Headquarters) Each year, as we enjoy warm summer evenings, and vacations with families we also keep a close eye on our blood supply. The amount of blood available for hospital patients typically drops significantly in July. Meanwhile, the number of serious traffic accidents tends to increase during holiday periods.
The biggest cause of summer blood shortages is a decline in the number of blood donors. Many schools and colleges are out of session, so there are fewer campus blood drives. Also, many regular blood donors go on vacation and don't come in as regularly during the summer.
Of course, many people do give blood during the summer months -- we just need more of them! If you can find an hour in July or August to donate blood, there will be a hospital patient who is eternally grateful.
For the last 5 years Coaster has partnered with the American Red Cross to help those in need. In June, the blood mobile came to Coaster Headquarters, so employees could donate blood. 38 employees volunteered and with their “gift of life” almost 80 people will be saved. Thank you to all who participated.
